The Samsung Unpacked 2021 revealed the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra. Along with the new flagships for this year, the company also took the wraps off the much-awaited Galaxy Buds Pro TWS earbuds. In line with all rumors, happenings, and guesswork, the earbuds are here to tell the story.

The Galaxy Buds Pro features a much better design than the Buds Live for an ergonomic fit. However, the charging case design has remained intact much like the previous iteration. Starting things off, we get an 11mm bass driver for a bass boost and a 6.5mm tweeter for minimizing distortion and producing a crispier treble. All of this ensures a dynamic, rich, and clearer sound.

To clear out unwanted noise and upping the communication quality, the Galaxy Buds Pro has three mics and a Voice Pickup Unit (VPU). Also one of the microphones has a high signal-to-noise ratio to aid in filtering out background noise even better. Samsung’s new Wind Shield Technology employs a specially designed chamber and meshes to filter wind disturbance during those rides or on a windy day. All of this is possible due to the redesign of the earbuds.

As usual, ANC is at work here but Samsung claims that the level of ANC here is up to 99%. Should you go out for a walk or want to be in sync with the on-coming traffic, you can set to amplify nearby sounds by up to 20 decibels.

Similar to Apple’s spatial audio, the Galaxy Buds Pro comes with 360 Audio with Dolby Head Tracking technology to help the user be in focus with the audio regardless and create an exceptional surround sound experience.

The earbuds boast a playback life of 8 hrs with additional 20 hrs of juice when used with the charging case. Speaking of which, both the earbuds and the case feature 61mAh and 472 mAh battery respectively. With the ANC on, the battery life downs to 5 hrs for the earbuds and 13hrs with the case. Qi wireless charging is available. Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with SBC and AAC codec support is onboard.

The Galaxy Buds Pro is IPX78 certified for water and dust resistance. The earbuds will be up for pre-order on January 15 with sales set to begin on January 29 for €229.

Along with the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus, Samsung outed the S21 Ultra which focuses on bringing a better camera experience and other noteworthy upgrades in the S21 lineup. An addition of a fourth camera along with laser AF and a curved display as opposed to flat units on the vanilla S21 and S21 Plus can be seen here. 5G connectivity is standard and the device is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.

Galaxy S21 Ultra: specs fest!

S Pen support and full-on refresh rate

To start off, the 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display of the Galaxy S21 Ultra runs at Quad HD+ resolution with a variable 120Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, the Infinity-O panel does support a full refresh rate at the max resolution of 1440p+. The panel is HDR10+ certified.

Speaking of the display, the company has carried over the S Pen functionality of the Note line to the S series. The S21 Ultra gets support for S Pen or any Wacom-based Stylus. However, the stylus is a separate purchase and on top of that, the S21 Ultra has no compartment for parking the stylus when not in use.

Quad-camera

Now, coming to the main highlight, which happens to be the camera on the S21 Ultra resting on the new camera island. We do get a quad-camera system. A large 108MP wide camera + a 12MP ultrawide along with two tele units both featuring a 10MP resolution. The fifth module is a laser auto-focus module. As for the selfie cam, a 40MP unit is at the front of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. 4K @ 60fps videos can be captured using each and every camera module.

Processing

Running the show is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 SoC depending upon the country of purchase. Storage capacity starts from 128GB on the 12GB memory model all the way up to 512GB on the 16GB unit. A storage expansion slot is absent.

Power, OS, price, and availability

A 5000 mAh battery is embedded inside the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Charging is rated at 25W wired and 15W wireless and reverse-wireless charge at 9W. On that note, a power brick is not included in the box. All you do get is a USB-C cable.

One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 boots up the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Note line’s S Pen-specific features have trickled down to this device too.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra will start reaching stores by 29th January and will retail for a starting price of €1,250.

Samsung has finally introduced the over anticipated Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra. The S21 Ultra deserves an article of its own coming up next. The renders, rumors, and speculations were all right on spot with the reality. Anyways, Samsung has brought some key design changes and an upgrade in overall specs over the S20 family. Alrighty, let’s jump right into the specs and other tidbits of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus. And yes, the S21 and S21 Plus are IP68 certified.

Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus: Design extravaganza!

Design

Right off the bat, we can see the brand new camera module housing the three sensors with the flash sitting outside all alone. Upfront, an Infinity-O display with minimal bezels compared to the previous generation. Interestingly, this time around, the company has employed a dual-tone color combination for the camera island and rear panel.

Great display with a great catch!

The vanilla and Plus Galaxy S21 phones make do with flat 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch punch-hole displays. Both have support for HDR 10+ and feature a variable 120Hz refresh rate Dynamic AMOLED panel (48Hz-120Hz). However, bizarrely, all of this comes at a cost of sacrifice. Yes, you guessed it right there, we only do get a Full HD+ panel which does no justice to the flagship status of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus.

Camera system

A triple-shooter setup is onboard the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus. As in, seated on the new camera island are two 12MP units that are ultrawide and wide-angle respectively. The third unit is a 64MP telephoto module. As for the selfie clicks, a 10MP camera does the job.

Chip, memory, and storage

As usual, Samsung is bringing in the latest and greatest in-house and Qualcomm chipsets to run the show which is all built on the 5nm process. Speaking of which, the brand’s Exynos 2100 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon powers the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus. These chips feature full 5G connectivity and support. Memory-wise, you just get 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and the storage options available are 128GB and 256GB sans storage expansion slot.

Battery, OS, price, and availability

Both the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus pack in a 4000 mAh and 4800 mAh respectively. Wired charging is capped at 25W, while wireless charging is rated at 15W with reverse wireless going up to 9W. And yes, in typical 2021 fashion, there is no charger bundled with the two flagship devices, all you get is a USB-C cable.

Android 11 based Samsung’s own One UI 3.1 drives the hardware. As far as pricing is concerned, the S21 starts at €850, and its taller twin S21 Plus at €1,050. Pre-orders begin as soon as January 15 with the units hitting stores starting January 29.

We all have come across smartphone brands taking a dig at each other for some logical reasons. However, bizarrely, Chinese smartphone maker Tecno mocking Apple and Samsung are the dumbest trolls ever we have seen at this point. Let’s say, This has to be one confident attempt from the brand to taunt the two top smartphone makers in the world.

In fact, it has gone too far that the troll makes no sense to anyone at the end of the day. The troll was initiated by the company to promote their Phantom X smartphone.

Tecno last week took to their Twitter account to taunt Apple by asking its users to not “take the rotten apple” and change their taste to “something fresh”. This mockery aims to persuade its users to try the “Refreshing Camera” on the Phantom X.

Funnily, the camera is only good on paper with its triple 50MP+13MP+8MP setup but in reality, the system isn’t anywhere close to what the iPhone 13 offers.

Moving on, a few hours ago Tecno chose to mock Samsung for some unidentified reason. Again, via a Tweet, the company attempted to promote the “Brand-new Design” of the Phantom X. The image in the tweet advises its fans to not “repeat the samesong” and instead “try something new”. Or was it with regards to the “Over the Horizon” brand song of Samsung that they pointed out? Who knows.

Quite comically and ironically, the design of the Phantom X looks like a direct lift-off of two Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The front of the phone resembles that of the Galaxy S10 Plus and the setup at the back reminds us of the Galaxy S9 series.

Usually, trolls and mockeries of this kind help not-so-popular brands to shine for some time. All while thinking people will take notice and decide to buy one at the very least.
