Cupertino giant Apple revealed the iPhone SE 3 at Tuesday’s Peek Performance event. Overall, it retains the same design that dates back to the iPhone 8 albeit with A15 Bionic and 5G. However, in this post, we’ll see the main deciding factor in purchasing the iPhone SE 3 and that’s the battery. Let’s see how much better is the iPhone SE 3 battery life compared to iPhone SE 2 and iPhone 8.

Same battery with better endurance, thanks to the A15 Bionic

We believe Apple has retained the same 1821 mAh battery in the iPhone SE 3 but according to the company’s claim, things apparently seem to have improved over its predecessor. Let’s get the numbers to do the talking then and find out. Considering the new SE 3 has the same overall footprint as the outgoing model, we doubt if Apple has upped the battery size.

In comparison to the iPhone SE 2, the SE 3 brings up to 2 more hours of video playback and up to 10 hours extra audio playback time. This is impressive for those coming from an iPhone SE 2 and that means the A15 Bionic chipset is good in terms of optimization.

Battery life: iPhone SE 3 vs iPhone SE 2 vs iPhone 8

iPhone SE 3 iPhone SE 2 iPhone 8
Video Playback battery life (hrs) 15 hrs 13 hrs 13 hrs
Audio playback battery life (hrs) 50 hrs 40 hrs 40 hrs
Video streaming battery life (hrs) 10 hrs 8 hrs

As customary as it is nowadays, Apple does not include a charging brick with the iPhone SE 3. All that’s there in the box is the device itself along with the Apple USB-C to USB-C cable and some user guides.

You may pre-order iPhone SE 3 on March 11 with sales commencing a week later on March 18.

Apple set foot in the headphones segment with the introduction of the AirPods Max earlier this month. Ever since its introduction and reviews being outed, there has been major confusion with regards to AirPods Max battery life conservation due to the lack of a power button on the same. To put an end to all convolutions, Apple themselves have detailed how to save battery power.

Starting off, we already have learned earlier that the bundled Smart Case puts the AirPods Max into low power mode to conserve battery. However, building upon that, the headphones automatically go into ultralow-power mode if left in the case for 18 hours. The ultralow-power mode turns Bluetooth connectivity off and disables the Find My feature to avoid further battery drain.

Now coming to the question of concern ever since its debut: How do I switch my AirPods Max off? Well, again, there is no power button on the same and there are only 2 automatic ways to get around this nuisance. The AirPods Max goes into low power mode if the user isn’t wearing them for 5 minutes. Leaving the headphones unattended for 72 hours puts them into what apple calls lower power mode that turns off Bluetooth and Find My services to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

Wait! What’s the difference between ultralow-power mode and lower power mode when both carry out the same function? Sometimes Apple’s marketing terms go overboard and can get confusing at times. With that said, will Apple invent a power button in the future? Time will tell!

All in all, to be honest, we are fans of Apple products and always do appreciate what’s good and equally not so good regardless of the brand. This brings us to the already controversial design of the Smart Case for the AirPods Max. It looks really weird in our opinion and doesn’t look like something that would come out from Apple’s design labs. Although we expect the case to protect the headphones quite well, we are no fans of its form whatsoever.

As customary with every new iPhone generation, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max were put to a battery endurance test. And the test was conducted by none other than popular tech Youtuber and our most favorite Arun from Mrwhosetheboss. He pitted the latest iPhone 13 series against the iPhone models currently available from Apple i.e., iPhone 12, iPhone 11, and the 2020 iPhone SE (video below).

1. iPhone 13 series battery test video

Across the entire iPhone 13 lineup, there appears to be a tremendous improvement in battery life, especially with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The device beat the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra by an impressive 1 hour and 11 minutes for a record-breaking 9 hours and 52 minutes of endurance. Also impressive is how the iPhone 13 mini easily outshines the regular iPhone 12 here.

Having said that, we applaud Apple for battery life improvements this year considering the Pro lineup features a 120Hz ProMotion display. To back it up, the display has a variable 10Hz-120Hz refresh rate depending on the user input to save the battery as much as possible.

Now for the bitter truth. It’s not all roses throughout the test though as the 2020 iPhone SE performed the worst with just 3 hours and 38 minutes of life. And yes, we can confirm the unfortunate plight of the SE as it is our daily driver and are more than disappointed with such a mediocre battery performance.
