A small group of iPhone 13 Pro users is suffering from the pink screen of death issues on their devices. The iPhone 13 Pro pink screen issue is what appears to be a bright pink colored display appearing during normal usage of the device. The device freezes and even rebooting doesn’t solve the problem for some.

Frustrated users highlighted on the Apple Discussion Forum back in 2021 itself with symptoms being crashes rendering the debuts unusable. Restarting the device does not fix the issue for users. Even resetting to factory settings does not curb the issue.

Apple Service Center claimed the issue to be a hardware problem and users have been assured a replacement device in return. However, customers weren’t happy with their few days old iPhone 13 devices exhibiting such behavior.

One user had their iPhone 13 Pro Max display the pink screen while sending a PDF file via WhatsApp. Considering iOS 15.3 is right around the corner, we expect Apple to bring out some software updates to curb this issue better.

With the introduction of the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, Apple further improved on its ultimate goal to go carbon neutral by 2030. You see, last year with the iPhone 12 series, we saw the omission of chargers and earphones from the box citing environmental reasons to reduce e-waste.

This year Apple has taken things up a notch as they are eliminating the plastic wrap that keeps the iPhone box safe, tamper-free, and secure during shipping. As per a tweet by DuanRui, the new seal for the iPhone 13 series is a simple tear-tab.

HOT: iPhone 13 series is up for pre-order now

iphone-13-box-plastic-wrap-free-seal-5430448 A new secure paper seal has to be torn off to open the box

Replacing the wrapper is a paper tab seal that you would have to tear off to open the iPhone box. We were a bit on the fence about the seal here but it seems like the paper tab is strongly glued to the lid of the box, preventing the contents from falling off, should the lid open. Also, the new seal serves as solid evidence with regards to the authenticity as to whether the box has been opened before or not.

According to Apple, going plastic-wrap-free helps them rule out 600 metric tons of plastic and aim to go the plastic-free route on all of its sales packages by the year 2025.

Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi unveiled their Mi 11 Pro and Ultra flagship devices at a launch event in China today. Along with the high-end smartphones, the company also introduced an Apple AirPower-like wireless charging pad. Unless you’re living under a rock, you may have seen Apple’s multi-device wireless charger, the AirPower a few years ago in 2017.

Since its introduction at the iPhone 8/X launch event, the AirPower never made it to reality. After nearly two years in 2019, AirPower was canceled. Apple reasoned that the device was unable to meet its own quality standards. Since its inception, Apple takes quality and reliability very seriously for the best user experience (the Butterfly Keyboard being an exception!). Take a look at the canceled AirPower first and then let’s jump on to Xiaomi’s clone of the same.

Xiaomi’s iteration of the demised Apple AirPower

Source: Xiaomi Source: Xiaomi Source: Xiaomi Source: Xiaomi

As you can see from the pictures above, Xiaomi’s Apple AirPower clone (the shape here is less-rounded though) can charge up to 3 devices at a time. As per Xiaomi, the wireless charger provides an output of 60W with up to 20W available for each device. There are 19 coils built into the wireless charger which allows devices to be charged by placing them anywhere on the pad. There is no need to adjust your devices unlike conventional wireless chargers out there. You’ll be able to charge any Qi-certified device (except the Apple Watch) by resting it on this pad.

Xiaomi claims to have worked for two years on this wireless charger and feels confident that they have been able to iron out the overheating issue. And yes, this was apparently the main reason why Apple shelved the AirPower. On that note, only time will tell how well Xiaomi’s new AirPower clone will fare for such a challenging piece of tech.

This multi-coiled Xiaomi wireless charging pad will set you back just $91, which is really impressive considering the capabilities on offer here.

Apple‘s next big software-centric launch event is near, just one full week away. WWDC21 starts on June 7 at 5 PM (GMT). So stay tuned for the full coverage on everything that’s to come especially and more importantly iOS 15, the company’s next major OS update. Speaking of which, we have come up with 5 improvements and features Apple should bring to the table with iOS 15. Without further ado, let’s get to it.

Redesigned notifications system

There’s no shying around the fact that the current notification center on iOS is totally chaotic, for a lack of a better word! Sure we do have grouped notifications and a visually pleasing design to back up, however, the organization of items isn’t the best out there when compared to the rival Android where notifications are stacked much more neatly and logically conceptualized.

In-app Settings and preferences

This one has been on our wishlist for almost a decade now. You see ever since its inception, iOS has been burying every official and third-party app settings and preferences towards the bottom section of the Settings app. This behavior is nothing short of frustrating considering how well-tuned iOS is for usability. As a prime example, let’s take the Camera app for instance, where changing main camera preferences requires one to jump to the Settings app to make required changes. However, thankfully, Apple since the iPhone 11, Apple baked in the video resolution setting right onto the top bar of the Camera app.

Interactive widgets

Home screen widgets were introduced in iOS 14 last year. Although it bought with it some nice dynamic information right in the forefront. However, the widgets aren’t interactive in any way, say, for example, the ability to control audio playback, scrollable info, browse social media feeds, and more. Also, we wish if Apple adds the ability to expand icons to form widgets and vice versa.

improved multitasking with split-screen view

When it comes to memory management, nothing comes close to iOS, all thanks to Apple’s effortless software and hardware integration. The iPhone 8 has just 2GB of RAM and it even today does multitasking in a beat. The maxed-out variant of the iPhone 12 Pro Max features 6GB of RAM but the sheer amount of memory is severely limited by the lack of split-screen multitasking. Combining all this with the large bezel-less display experience further hampers productivity and feels like a not-so-great usage of all the available screen real-estate.

Restyled UI

Source: Apple

iOS has been nearly the same in terms of look and feel (that Weather app though!) ever since the heavy redesign of iOS 7 way back in 2013. Rumors have been making rounds for quite some time now indicating macOS Big Sur-esque icons, ambiance, and overall elements throughout the user interface. We just can’t hold our excitement with regards to this as we feel Big Sur brought freshness to the Mac lineup after so many years and that the look and feel trickling down across other systems would make everything even more cohesive and consistent.

Alright, below is the list of supported and unsupported iPhone models for Apple’s next major iOS 15 software update.

Devices that will have full support for iOS 15

  • iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini
  • iPhone SE (2020)
  • iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XS and XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2016)
  • iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

This is not something we have unheard of, however, a recent incident of an iPhone charger bursting into flames has sparked caution. A 17-year old girl named Amie from Birmingham, UK had just fallen asleep at 2 in the morning when the Lightning cable connected to her charging iPhone caught fire. She appears to have placed the smartphone right beside her and noticed flames on her blanket.

The flame then caught her face and caused minor but sore burns on her cheek. She rushed down to her mother to act upon the situation. Her mother put out the fire without the need for fire service.

Let’s understand all of this straight from her words as detailed it to the source of this report, Birmingham Mail:

I lay down for around five minutes to close my eyes to fall asleep…. (then) I could see flashing orange colours. I woke up and ran downstairs and shouted my mom.

“There was no need for the fire service to attend as my mom had managed to put the fire out herself.

“I would just like to spread the word to please make sure people take note – it could have been a lot worse.

Source: Birmingham Mail

It appears that she was using a charger from another brand however the lightning cable use an original Apple accessory. She urged users to refrain from charging their phones overnight. We believe the main issue here could be her wall socket or a third-party charging brick from a questionable brand considering she was using a genuine Apple charging cable.

Post the dangerous incident, Amie took over to Facebook to express her terrifying experience. She wrote:

So 2am this morning I was lying down as you do on my phone. Plugged in my charger and it set alight.

“My bed cover/duvet set on fire and also caught my face. This isn’t even a cheap charger, it’s an Apple charger. Please don’t go to bed and leave your phone charging overnight.

“If I was asleep this could have been a lot worse and this could have set my whole family home up with all my family in …

“Please be aware that this can happen to anyone and could be a lot worse. It’s dangerous.

Apple’s advice

Apple responded to this debacle by stating they take safety very seriously and advise users to follow safe charging practices. Apple currently is investigating this tragic occurrence and is in touch with her. One of the very important pieces of advice from Apple is to avoid charging the phone in poorly ventilated spaces or places where moisture is presently leading to a fire hazard.

The WWDC 2022 is all over now and among new stuff, iOS 16 brings reimagined lock screen experience. And we can clearly see it as being a pretty substantial iOS overhaul in the past few years. Apple has focused its attention on the lock screen with this new major update.

Users can now customize their lock screen fonts, date, and time according to the wallpaper tats been set. It could be a static, live, or dynamic wallpaper. The subject of the wallpaper photo intelligently sits in front of the time to create a sense of depth. A wide range of colors can be chosen for the fonts, multiple lock screens can be created to suit the mood.

Widgets are now part of the lock screen as well. Taking inspiration from the Apple Watch complications, one can apply upcoming alarms, battery level widgets, calendar events, activity rings, and more to glance at key information on the go in a pinch.

ios-16-live-activities-api-214x300-3368282

Rich dynamic wallpapers make it to the iOS 16 lock screen in the form of live weather alerts along with actual animations. Also, a new astronomy wallpaper views the earth, moon, and solar systems accordingly. Have a favorite emoji? You can create a lock screen based on that too as part of the multiple lock screen functionality we just mentioned earlier.

Focus modes can now be accessed directly from the lock screen. It can be set to mix and match with the look of the lock screen for a more personalized experience.

ios-16-lock-screen-focus-modes-2443533

And by the way, notifications have been revamped to cater to the new dynamic lock screen. Now, the notification alerts pop up from the bottom f the screen so that the beautiful lock screen doesn’t get buried by a plethora of notifications. This provides a clear view of the new lock screen interface letting you enjoy the wallpapers and customization in full glory.

Then we have what’s called the Live Activities API allowing users to see live and real-time notifications right on the lock screen. For example sports scores or food or parcel delivery tracking. The developer rejoices on this one!

Apple Pay Later feature makes a debut. Users can now split payments into four equal installments for up to six weeks with zero interest and fees of any kind. Speaking of which, apps can now access your Wallet information to authenticate you for their services such as digital keys and ID. Only relevant is information collected such as age will be collected. Digital Keys or virtual keys can be shared with the Messages app.

apple-pay-later-2458043

Messages get a slew of features as well and much-requested ones for that matter. Now you can unsend messages (Undo Send) easily. Want to edit a message and that too after sending it? Yes, you can! Also, the ability to make conversations unread is also now possible. Dictation now does not require an internet connection and is all done on-device now. Dictating and typing can be done simultaneously with the algorithm smartly switching back and forth. Emoji and punctuations are also recognized intelligently.

edit-messages-ios-16-8224027

Live Text functionality now extends to videos as well creating a much more involved learning experience.

Apple showed off the next generation CarPlay and oh boy it gets a massive makeover. CarPlay apart from the infotainment will now extend to every other screen in a car including the gauge cluster and other screens. Data like speed, RPM, fuel level, coolant temperature, and other driver tidbits will be shown to the driver. All of this is collected directly from the car system. Also, HVAC controls, seat adjustments, and heating among others can be controlled via the new CarPlay system. CarPlay will available at the end of next year.

The Developer Beta of iOS 16 is already available for registered Developers ($99/month). However, you may also download and install iOS 16 Developer Beta for free (at your own risk). The Public Beta goes live next month for all iOS users. The final version will be available in the fall right after the iPhone 14 event.

Apple is expected to bring the next-gen iPhone 13 sometime in September of this year. And already it appears that according to a survey from SellCell, 74% of users prefer another name for the upcoming iPhone 13. The reason being that the number 13 is considered to be unlucky for the superstitious people out there.

Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13

Source: SellCell

3005 iPhone users were taken into account for this survey and there are some interesting findings here. 18.3% of users (1 in 5 users) expressed their distaste for the iPhone 13 moniker. Men at 24.9% and 11.7% of women are triskaidekaphobic (men are nearly twice as likely to be affected) and would just steer away from the number 13. However, 81.7% of fans do not seem to have any problem and wouldn’t mind changing their next iPhone purchase plans.

The next iPhone should be called?

26% of 3005 users said It’s better if Apple stuck to the usual naming scheme for iPhone models. Meanwhile, the next iPhone lineup should be simply called iPhone (2021), suggest 38% of the surveyed users aiming to bring in a consistent naming scheme to better match up to the MacBook line and iPad range. Interestingly, 16% feel Apple should instead follow Samsung’s footsteps in naming their next iPhone lineup as iPhone 21.

Source: SellCell

The good old S moniker…

The iPhone XS and XS Max were the last iPhone models to sport an S moniker a few years ago. The S in the name indicated an interactive upgrade as opposed to a full-fledged revamp of sorts. That brings us to what 13% of iPhone users feel about. They are of the opinion that Apple has to restart their S suffix for their next-generation iPhone calling it the iPhone 12S.

Nevermind, let’s skip this year

Whatever this year’s iPhone is purported to be called, 7% of the 3000 users said they would rather altogether skip this year and hop on to the iPhone 14 in 2022.

As you can see from the pictures above, the iPad mini 6 will feature a design with flat sides very much like Apple’s recent tablets and iPhone lineup. The camera and flash arrangement mimics that of the 2020 iPad Air. Turning to the sides, we can see the flat design with the volume buttons and what appears to be the rumored Touch ID-enabled power button.

That said, a Face ID system is out of scope here. As for the screen, we can see symmetrical bezels throughout the front-fascia. By the looks of it, an 8.5″ display may make it to reality. Having said that, a mini-LED display may embrace the iPad mini 6 eventually.

Coming to the internals, Apple will most likely equip the A15 chipset that’s set to debut across the iPhone 13 lineup very soon. As tempting as it is, we don’t feel the possibility of the Apple M1 chip being featured in the iPad mini 6.
