Nothing was founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei not too long ago and their first product is already here. The $99 (₹5,999) Nothing Ear 1 is a pair of TWS earphones with a unique design and commendable feature set. The earphones carry a transparent design which helps showcase its internals in full glory. And yes, the charging case is also getting transparent treatment.

The Ear 1 is co-created and tuned by Teenage Engineering. The earbuds feature an 11.6mm driver. Speaking of which, up to 40db Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is on board along with Transparency and normal modes. Three microphones are present to keep you sounding crystal clear during calls using advanced algorithms to keep out wind and unwanted background noise.

We think the Ear 1 to be quite an alternative to the AirPods Pro at least when the price is taken into consideration.

The Nothing Ear 1 is IPX4 certified for splash and sweat resistance. Each earbud weighs 4.7g which is a perfect balance in our opinion and features pressure-relieving vents for optimum comfort. Nothing provides three ear tip sizes for the best fit possible. The Ear 1 can provide listening time for up to 5 hours and when combined with the charging case, you can expect 34 hours of battery life.

The Ear (1) app is available on iOS helping users manage and customize their earbuds. The Android app is also available and as a bonus for Android users, the earbuds support Google Fast Pair enabling instant pair and play. The Ear 1 will be available in limited quantities on Nothing’s website starting July 31. A full-fledged rollout will begin on August 17. In India, the Ear 1 will be a Flipkart-exclusive device.

With the introduction of the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, Apple further improved on its ultimate goal to go carbon neutral by 2030. You see, last year with the iPhone 12 series, we saw the omission of chargers and earphones from the box citing environmental reasons to reduce e-waste.

This year Apple has taken things up a notch as they are eliminating the plastic wrap that keeps the iPhone box safe, tamper-free, and secure during shipping. As per a tweet by DuanRui, the new seal for the iPhone 13 series is a simple tear-tab.

HOT: iPhone 13 series is up for pre-order now

iphone-13-box-plastic-wrap-free-seal-5430448 A new secure paper seal has to be torn off to open the box

Replacing the wrapper is a paper tab seal that you would have to tear off to open the iPhone box. We were a bit on the fence about the seal here but it seems like the paper tab is strongly glued to the lid of the box, preventing the contents from falling off, should the lid open. Also, the new seal serves as solid evidence with regards to the authenticity as to whether the box has been opened before or not.

According to Apple, going plastic-wrap-free helps them rule out 600 metric tons of plastic and aim to go the plastic-free route on all of its sales packages by the year 2025.

AirTag, Apple’s new smart tracking device was introduced at the April 20 Apple Event, and it’s already available for purchase today. The $29 ($99 for a 4-pieces bundle) tracker keeps your belongings safe should you lose them. Your stuff can be easily located via the Find My App on Apple devices.

Speaking of which, Daniel of the Youtube channel ZONEofTECH which is dedicated to Apple products via Twitter revealed that the AirTag was ready to ship as early as 2019. Upon unboxing, he discovered the pamphlet with the year 2019 listed for trademark and regulatory purposes.

On the other hand, on the sales package, we can see the year 2020 printed on the trademark sticker. All of this indicates that the smart tracking device was devised by the company long ago. We still aren’t clear why Apple chose to delay the product by a couple of years.

However, one thing is clear that the AirTag has had leaked several times in the past hinting at an imminent launch at the time. Also, the company’s decision to open the Find My network to third-party devices prior to the launch further cemented the possibility of an AirTag introduction.

What Apple could never, Ken Pillonel. a robotics engineering student did and answered this one question “Will the iPhone use USB-C?”. Pilloner created waves when he made the world’s first USB-C-equipped iPhone (more on that in a bit). Eventually, Pilloner put up the iPhone X for auction on eBay last week. Over time, the bidding price reached $85,000 over the week and finally sold on Thursday upon a final bid of $86,001.

Advertisementsusb-c-iphone-x-sold-on-ebay-5295180 World’s first iPhone with USB-C port sells for a whopping $86,001

This all started back in October when Pillonel shared glimpses of his months of research and hard work via a Shorts video (linked above) on his Youtube Channel. It appears to be that he reverse-engineered Apple’s C94 Lightning connector and in turn custom-made a PCB with a female USB-C port. All of this was made to fit into the iPhone to be able to get to the final solution.

Want to learn more? Watch Pillonel’s video that details the project from start to finish. The iPhone X utilized for the project was a pre-owned 64GB unit purchased off eBay itself.

The modified iPhone as advised by Pillonel should not be used as a daily phone, erased or factory reset to avoid any potential issues. The project is open source and details of the same can be accessed on GitHub for those on a mission to build a USB-C iPhone. Also, stay tuned for a USB-C-equipped AirPods charging case from Pillonel in the near future.

UPDATE – 19/03/21: It turns out like things are going haywire at Twitter. As in, the social media platform is supposedly working on a subscription model that may bring new features along with the much anticipated Undo Tweet functionality. This to us seems ridiculous at the very least.

You see, currently, a user can just delete an errored tweet and tweet again if he/she wishes to. We wonder why would someone sign up for the subscription for such a simple task. Instead, we feel, Twitter should throw it in for free! We have obtained the screenshot from Jane Manchun Wong on Twitter itself, who previously provided us with Undo Tweet feature in action. Read on to know more.

Pay Twitter to un-send tweets! | Source: @wongmjane

ORIGINAL ARTICLE – 05/03/21: Popular microblogging platform Twitter is reportedly working on a life-saving feature! No, not the ability to edit tweets but something even better. Okay, so Twitter is preparing a function that enables you to un-send a tweet that you had just posted, should you proofread it again.

Notable feature discoverer Jane Manchun Wong showcased this exact feature on her Twitter handle. By the looks of it, this supposed feature instantly reminded us of Gmail. As in, Gmail also in a very similar fashion allows one to undo a sent email for correction purposes. Take a look at what Twitter’s working on! Let’s also compare it to Gmail’s undo feature.

After posting a tweet, the Undo button is available to the user for around 5-6 seconds before any changes can be made to the same, again very much like Gmail. We really hope, this important and beneficial feature gets rolled out as soon as possible.

Gmail Undo feature

For almost a decade users on Twitter have been longing for the ability to edit tweets. We have all been there and come across several tweets that have typos in them. Currently, the only way to make corrections to an already posted tweet is to delete the same and re-convey the same message with all of the fixes applied to it. This alone discourages a user to go all the way to compose a tweet again, only resorting to keeping the original post in its form.

High-end Japanese toaster and kitchen appliances manufacturer Balmuda introduced its first-ever phone called Balmuda Phone. The phone is an Android OS-powered 5G smartphone with a compact design, cute little pebble-shaped look, and kind of mid-range specs.

The screen measures just 4.9″ carrying with it a Full HD+ resolution and the good old 16:9 aspect ratio. Thankfully the screen tries enough to stretch to all four corners for a bezel-less experience. Speaking of which, the front-facing 8MP camera is situated in the punch-hole cut-out.

Processing on this compact smartphone is handled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. The internal memory available is 128GB of storage with no memory card slot for storage expansion.

The primary camera is a modest 48MP unit complete with an LED flash to boot. And as such is nothing to write home about.

Connectivity-wise, we have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB-C port for charging, and 5G to keep up with the times. Interestingly Qi-wireless charging is also present here to top-up the meager 2500 mAh battery.

Being an Android smartphone, we expected Android 12 to make it here, however, Bermuda has stuck with version 11. This is not okay but at least Balmuda has made sure it has provided some custom experience on top of vanilla Android. For instance, system apps like calendar, camera, and more are Balmuda’s own along with a few system-wide gestures to enlighten the overall experience.

All of this will be up for purchase for JPY 104,800 which translates to USD 912.43 making it quite expensive for what’s on offer.

On the software side of things, Honor’s Magic UI 4.0 based on Android 10 is pre-installed. Yes, Android 10 which is strange. Speaking of which, we are yet to confirm whether the Honor V40 Lite supports Google Play Services or not. It’s a no-brainer that Apple devices around the globe are some of the most sought-after pieces of tech. Each year, the anticipation builds up prior to the launch of a new iPhone, iPad, and more products from the Cupertino giant. The anticipation is so much so that we get to witness leaked schematics, renders, and in many cases the official device itself well ahead of launch.

Speaking of which, in a leaked memo courtesy of The Verge, Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out to employees on Tuesday expresses his frustration towards leakers and said that the company is “doing everything in our power to identify those who leaked”.

HOT: Download iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro wallpapers

Tim also explicitly pressed the company is aware that there are only a small number of leakers out there and that “people who leak confidential information do not belong here”, here as in Apple. The full transcript of the memo is below for your reference.

Dear Team,

It was great to connect with you at the global employee meeting on Friday. There was much to celebrate, from our remarkable new product line-up to our values driven work around climate change, racial equity, and privacy. It was a good opportunity to reflect on our many accomplishments and to have a discussion about what’s been on your mind.

I’m writing today because I’ve heard from so many of you were were incredibly frustrated to see the contents of the meeting leak to reporters. This comes after a product launch in which most of the details of our announcements were also leaked to the press.

I want you to know that I share your frustration. These opportunities to connect as a team are really important. But they only work if we can trust that the content will stay within Apple. I want to reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to identify those who leaked. As you know, we do not tolerate disclosures of confidential information, whether it’s product IP or the details of a confidential meeting. We know that the leakers constitute a small number of people. We also know that people who leak confidential information do not belong here.

As we look forward, I want to thank you for all you’ve done to make our products a reality and all you will do to get them into customers’ hands. Yesterday we released iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and watchOS 8, and Friday marks the moment when we share some of our incredible new products with the world. There’s nothing better than that. We’ll continue to measure our contributions in the lives we change, the connections we foster, and the work we do to leave the world a better place.

Thank you,

Tim

Apple is expected to release the AirPods 3 likely in the third quarter of this year. However, we just came across a surprising video from DuanRui on Twitter (obtained via TikTok) that showcases a counterfeit AirPods 3. It appears that fake units of the earbuds have made it to the market. As you can see below, this knock-off unit, by the looks of it goes in line with the leaked images of the supposedly real AirPods 3.

As surprising it is to us, it actually isn’t because we all know how quick the Chinese market is at faking real original products in just a matter of time. The charging case, earbuds, and every little aspect of the AirPods 3 have been replicated here. And yes, sans the ear tips too, which may itself be an expected design trait of the upcoming third-gen AirPods.
